‘라이브 브레스트어시스트’·‘너브트랙’ 통해 다양한 진료 영역 내 실시간 진단 실현
AI 기술력 갖춘 ‘HERA W10 Elite’로 산부인과 분야 초음파 진단기기 리더십 방점
[의학신문·일간보사=오인규 기자] 삼성메디슨은 KIMES 2024에서 진료 환경에 맞춰 세분화된 AI 기술력이 탑재된 프리미엄 초음파 진단기기를 선보이며 의료AI 분야의 새 바람을 불러오고 있다. AI기술을 접목한 삼성메디슨의 영상 진단기기는 영상의학과, 산부인과 등 다양한 진료과를 아우르는 범용적 초음파 진단기기로 눈길을 끈다.
■ ‘RS85 Prestige’, 다양한 분과 타겟한 AI 기능 탑재
프리미엄 초음파 진단기기 ‘RS85 Prestige’가 실시간 진단이 가능한 AI 기능을 탑재해 한층 업그레이드됐다. 이번 ‘RS85 Prestige’에는 ‘라이브 브레스트어시스트(Live BreastAssist™)’와 ‘너브트랙(NerveTrack™)’ 등 초음파 진단 신기술이 새롭게 적용됐다.
새롭게 탑재된 라이브 브레스트어시스트와 너브트랙 기능은 기존 영상의학과에서 산부인과, 정형외과 등 대상 범위를 넓혀 진료과 세분화 성과를 거둘 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.
라이브 브레스트어시스트는 유방 초음파 스캔 중 관심 부위를 실시간으로 검출하고, 해당 위치 정보를 표시해 주는 신규 AI기능으로 의료진의 진료 과정을 보조한다. 라이브 브레스트어시스트와 진단 기능인 에스 디텍트(S Detect™)를 함께 사용하면 표준화된 자료 제공 및 진료 프로세스(Work Flow) 간소화를 통해 신속한 진단이 가능하며, 불필요한 조직 검사 가능성을 줄일 수 있다.
‘너브트랙’은 초음파 스캔 중 신경 위치를 실시간으로 검출 및 추적해 해당 위치 정보를 표시하는 AI 기능이다. 신경은 크기가 작고 주변 조직과 구분이 어려워 초음파 검사로 다른 조직과 구분이 쉽지 않다.
의료진의 숙련도에 따라 신경을 찾는 소요 시간에 차이가 많이 난다는 한계가 있다는 점에 착안해 삼성메디슨은 인텔과 공조해 ‘너브트랙’을 개발했다.
‘너브트랙’은 신경뿐 아니라 혈관, 근육, 뼈 등 해부학적 위치도 표시해주어, 의료 시술 시 중요 혈관을 피해 바늘을 삽입할 수 있게 해준다. 이에 해당 기능은 근골격계 질환에서 나아가 재활의학과, 스포츠의학과 등 다양한 분과에서 활용 가능할 것으로 예상된다.
손목 주변에 위치한 정중신경(Median Nerve)을 자동 측정하는 ‘이지너브메져(EzNerveMeasure™)’ 기능 또한 초음파 검사 시 키 입력 횟수 최소화해주어 쉽고 빠른 진단 결과 도출을 돕는다.
아울러 ‘RS85 Prestige’에는 ‘크리스탈 빔(CrystalBeam™)’과 영상의학과 특성을 고려한 영상처리 엔진인 ‘크리스탈 퓨어(CrystalPure)™’가 적용돼 기존 자사 제품 대비 신호 처리량, 데이터 전송 속도를 각각 4배 가량 높였다.
장기를 더 잘 보이게 해주는 ‘Shadow HDR™’ 기능과 초음파 검사에서 나타나는 얼룩점(Speckle Noise)을 줄여 진단 정확도를 높여 주는 ‘퓨어 비전(PureVision)’기능도 탑재됐다. 이에 ‘RS85 Prestige’는 확진까지 가능한 수준 초음파 진단기 등장의 가능성을 열고 있다.
■ ‘HERA W10 Elite’, 태아 전주기에 걸쳐 주요 항목 자동 측정 제공
삼성메디슨은 AI 기능이 탑재된 프리미엄 초음파 진단기기 ‘HERA W10 Elite’를 통해 산부인과 분야 초음파 진단기기 영역 내 리더십을 공고히 했다.
‘HERA W10 Elite’에는 AI 진단 보조 솔루션 ‘하트어시스트(HeartAssist™)’, ‘바이오메트리어시스트(BiometryAs-sist™)’, ‘뷰어시스트(ViewAssist™)’ 3종이 적용됐다.
‘하트어시스트’는 태아 심장 대상 주요 측정 항목을 자동으로 감지해주는 기능이다. 빅데이터 기반 딥러닝 AI 기술인 ‘하트어시스트’는 일관성 있는 결과를 빠르게 확인할 수 있게 해준다. 해당 기능으로 제공되는 결과값은 태아의 심장 진단에 필요한 단면을 자동으로 분류한 측정 결과와 표준 점수(Z-Score)등이다.
이 결과값은 의료진이 손쉽게 확인 가능한 영상으로 자동으로 구성된다. 의료진은 또한 해당 영상에서 미리 설정해둔 검사 메뉴 불러오기 등을 실행할 수 있는 등, 진료 효율성을 높이기 위한 부가 기능도 준비됐다.
‘바이오메트리어시스트’는 태아의 주수별 성장 지표를 자동으로 측정해 일관된 측정값을 제공하는 기능이다. ‘바이오메트리어시스트’는 기존 측정 항목 뿐 아니라 정둔장*(CRL, Crown-Rump Length), 목덜미 투명대**(NT, Nuchal Translucency), 양수 지표(Amniotic Fluid Index) 측정 기능을 추가하며 전주기에 걸친 주요 항목의 자동 측정을 실현했다.
‘뷰어시스트’는 초음파 영상을 자동으로 분류해 영상 내 구조물에 주석을 표기하는 기능이다. 두 기능은 의료종사자의 간편한 측정을 도와 진료 프로세스(Work flow)를 간소화했다.
삼성메디슨은 AI 기술을 활용해 의료진 편의성과 진단 정확도를 향상시키는 방향으로 기술 개발을 이어가고 있으며, 이를 통해 향후 진단기기 영역의 새 지평을 열고자 한다.

Taking part in KIMES 2024, Samsung Medison is introducing a premium ultrasound diagnositc device equipped with AI technology that is segmented to suit the medical environment, ushering in a new trend within medical AI field. Samsung Medison’s imaging diagnositc device integrating with AI technology is a universal ultrasound diagnostic device that encompasses various medical departments such as radiology and obstetrics and gynecology.
■ ‘RS85 Prestige’, Equipped with AI features that target various departments
Premium ultrasound diagnostic equipment ‘RS85 Prestige’ has been upgraded with AI features that can offer real-time diagnosis.
The device has been equipped with new ultrasonic diagnostic technologies such as ‘ Live BreastAssist™’ and ‘NerveTrack™.’ These newly integrated features are expected to yield positive outcomes of department segmentation by expanding the scope of targets to include obstetrics and gynecology and orthopedic surgery going beyond the radiology department.
‘Live BreastAssist™’ is a new AI feature that detects interested areas in real-time during breast scanning and displays the location of lesions to assist healthcare professionals in diagnosis. Using ‘Live BreastAssist™’ together with ‘S-Detect™,’ a diagnostic feature, enables rapid diagnosis through standardized data provision and simplification of the treatment process, reducing the need for unnecessary biopsy.
‘NerveTrack™’ is an AI feature that detects and provides information of the location of the nerve area in real-time during ultrasound scanning. Because nerves are small in size and difficult to distinguish from surrounding tissues, ultrasound examination is not easy to distinguish them from other tissues.
Samsung Medison developed “Nerve-Track™” in cooperation with Intel, considering that there is a restriction that the time required to find nerves varies greatly depending on the level of skills of medical staff.
‘Nervetrack™’ displays not only nerves but also anatomical locations such as blood vessels, muscles, and bones, allowing needles to be inserted to avoid important blood vessels during medical procedures. As a result, the feature is expected to be utilized in various departments such as rehabilitation medicine and sports medicine, going beyond musculoskeletal diseases.
‘EzNerveMeasure™’, which automatically measures the Median Nerve located around the wrist, also minimizes the number of key strokes during ultrasound scanning, helping to derive easier and faster diagnostic results.
In addition, ‘RS85 Prestige’ is equipped with ‘CrystalBeam™’ and ‘CrystalPure™,’ an image processing engine that takes into account the characteristics of radiology, thereby increasing signal throughput and data transmission speed by four folds compared to existing products.
Features like ‘ShadowHDR™,’ which makes organs more visible, and ‘PureVision,’ which reduces speckle noise and improves diagnostic accuracy have also been newly added. As a result, ‘RS85 Prestige’ is opening up the possibility of introducing an ultrasound diagnostic device that can even enable confirmed diagnosis.
■ ‘HERA W10 Elite’, Offers Automatic Measurement of Necessary Items Across All Development Cycle of Fetus
Samsung Medison has solidified its leadership in the field of ultrasound diagnostic devices in the obstetrics and gynecology through the premium ultrasound diagnostic device ‘HERA W10 Elite’ equipped with AI features.
Three types of AI diagnosis assistance solutions ‘HeartAssist™,’ ‘BiometryAssist™,’ and ‘ ViewAssist™’ have been applied to ‘HERA W10 Elite.’
‘HeartAssist™’ provides automatic classification of ultrasound image into measurement views required for fetal heart diagnosis and provides measurement results. It is a deeplearning AI technology based on big data, enabling a quick check with consistent results.
Results provided by this feature include measurement results that automatically classifying cross-sections necessary for the diagnosis of the fetus’ heart and Z-Score.
This result value is automatically configured as an image that can be easily checked by the medical staff. Additional features are also prepared to increase diagnosis efficiency, such as being able to execute a pre-set test menu in the image.
‘BiometryAssist™’ is a function that provides consistent measurements by automatically measuring growth indicators for each week of the fetus. It has materialized automatic measurement of major items throughout the entire cycle by adding measurement functions such as CRL* (Crown-Rump Length), NT** (Nuchal Translucency,) and Amniotic Fluid Index on top of existing measurement items.
‘ViewAssist™’ is a feature that automatically classifies ultrasound images and annotates them on objects in the images. The two features streamline workflow, helping medical workers to measure more easily.
Samsung Medison is continuing to develop technology in the direction of improving the convenience and diagnostic accuracy of medical staff by utilizing AI technology, ultimately aiming to open a new horizon in the field of diagnostic devices going forward.
