According to a data, items that domestic drug companies exported most last year were antibiotics for material drugs and vaccines for complete drugs. The Korea Pharmaceutical Traders Association (President Lee Yoon-woo) reported that antibiotics made the largest export worth $98.89 million among material drugs. The largest exported drug among complete drugs was the Quinvaxem injection, 5-in-1 combo vaccine, with $134.42 million in exports.
Specifically, Emtricitabine, an AIDS treatment drug, placed second among material drugs with $45.93 million in exports, followed by Vitamin-B with $30.98 million and Zidovudine, an AIDS treatment drug, with $25 million.
Following those were nucleic acid with $23.77 million in exports, rebamipide, an anti-ulcer material, with $16.77 million, ceftriaxone, an antibiotic material, with $10.74 million, gelatin capsule with $10.21 million, cilostazol with $10.03 million, and Imipenem, an antibiotic material, with $9.46 million.
Among complete drugs, the Quinvaxem injection made the biggest export, followed by Medicament with $131.40 million in exports, Vaccines for human medicine with $29.23 million, Omeprazole with $12.82 million, Mobic capsule with $12.15 million, Medicine with $9.6 million, Piperacillin with $9.13 million, I.V.-Globulin with $8.3 million, Pharmaceutical with $7.98 million, and Hepavax-Gene with $7.22 million.
However, there were many unclear items including Medicament and Pharmaceutical among complete drugs exported, so exactly what kind of products were exported is not known. Also, most exported items were mainly vaccines among complete drugs and antibiotics among material drugs for many years, so drug companies should urgently diversify and develop more items to be exported, according to the report.
