VR 피터스(Fetus), 태아영상 3D로 생생하게 관찰 가능
[의학신문·일간보사=김원준 기자] 길재소프트는 이번 KIMES에서 산모가 병원에서 입체 초음파 검사를 받을 때, 모니터 대신 VR로 태아를 보기 위한 병원용 VR 피터스(Fetus)와 산모앱 1.0을 소개한다.
병원용 VR 피터스는 기본적으로 무선영상송신기와 전용(dedicated) VR 기기(또는 HMD)로 구성된다. 무선영상송신기는 입체 초음파 영상을 무선으로 실시간 전송하며, 전용 VR 기기는 전송받은 입체 초음파 영상을 실시간으로 양안으로 분리하여 표시하며, 동영상으로 저장한다.
특히 전용 VR 기기에는 3D Tilting 기술이 적용되어 있다. 길재소프트의 3D Tilting 기술은 초음파 태아 얼굴을 볼 때 고개를 상하좌우로 돌리면, 다른 각도에서 태아 얼굴을 볼 수 있기 때문에 산모가 좀더 입체적으로 태아얼굴을 관찰할 수 있다.
설치는 무선영상송신기를 초음파 진단기기의 비디오 출력 단자(HDMI 또는 DVI)에 연결한 후, 전용 VR 기기를 무선영상송신기의 와이파이에 연결하면 된다. 만약 초음파 진단기기가 VGA만 지원하는 경우, 길재소프트의 올인원 비디오 컨버터를 사용하면 된다.
병원용 VR 피터스는 초음파 진단기기의 비디오 출력 신호를 무선으로 전송하기 때문에 초음파 진단기기에 별도의 소프트웨어를 설치할 필요가 없으며, 초음파 영상을 저장하기 위해 DVR 시스템을 구축할 필요도 없다. 화질은 S-VIDEO보다 선명하다.
산모앱 1.0은 저장받은 태아 영상을 스마트폰으로 재생하거나 가족, 지인들과 공유하는 기능을 제공한다. 산모앱은 단순 태아영상의 재생뿐만 아니라 양안 표시와 3D Tilting 기능을 포함하고 있으므로, 가정에서도 간단하게 카드보드를 사용해 입체감있는 태아얼굴을 관찰할 수 있다.
한편, 길재소프트 VR 피터스는 2016년 KIMES (국제의료기기&병원설비전시회)'에서 기업의 트랜드성, 성장률, 유망제품 등 높은 점수를 받아 BEST OF KIMES TOP 10' 선정된 바 있다.

Q: VR 피터스를 개발하게 된 동기는?
이상림 대표는 창업 초기에 개발한 초음파 진단기기 운영소프트웨어의 활용방안을 강구하다가, 우연하게 카드보드로 태아얼굴을 보고 감동을 받았습니다. 시장조사를 위해 2016년 KIMES (국제의료기기&병원설비전시회)에 시제품을 전시했는데, 많은 참관객의 호응을 받아, 본격적으로 VR 피터스를 개발하여 2016년 10월 첫번째 버전을 출시했습니다.
Q: 시장의 반응은?
2017년 초까지 시장의 반응은 뜨거웠지만 이내 가라앉았습니다. 이유는 안정성(reliability)와 차별화입니다. 초기 무선영상송신기는 다양한 초음파 진단기기의 해상도를 지원하지 못해 충돌이 발생했으며, VR 기기는 스마트폰을 탑재해야 하기 때문에 병원에서 사용하기 번거로웠습니다. 또한 태아영상을 VR로 재생할 때, 빅스크린 모드로만 재생해서 모니터와 차별화를 갖지 못했습니다. 이번에 출시한 병원용 VR 피터스는 이러한 문제를 해결한 버전입니다.
Q: 올해 목표는?
무엇보다도 병원용 VR 피터스로 국내시장과 중국 시장에 진입하는 것입니다. 중국의 경우 이미 샘플을 수출해서 일부 지역에서 운영중에 있으며, 4월에 있는 CMEF를 계기로 전국으로 확장할 계획에 있습니다. 국내는 산모를 중심으로 마케팅 활동을 해서, 산모의 요청에 의해 병원에서 VR로 태아를 보는 서비스를 제공하는 방향으로 진행할 계획입니다.
더불어 다른 목표는 헬스케어 기반의 산모앱을 출시하는 것입니다. 이번 전시회에 출시한 산모앱은 태아동영상을 공유하고 VR로 보는 기능을 제공하는데, 올해 말까지 태아 영상을 보기 위한 필수앱으로 자리매김을 하는 것입니다.
Q: 앞으로의 목표는?
산모의 궁금증을 해소하고 산모에게 재미와 감동을 드리기 위해, 길재소프트는 산모앱을 중심으로 헬스케어와 IT가 융합된 제품과 서비스를 산모와 병원과 가정에 제공할 것입니다. 그러면 산모는 시간과 장소에 구애받지 않고 태아를 실감하고, 태아와 교감할 수 있으며, 산모와 태아의 건강을 체크하고, 이를 가족, 지인들과 공유할 수 있습니다.

VR Fetus, Fetal Image to be Observed Vividly in 3D
At the KIMES 2018, GIRJAESOFT introduces VR Fetus for hospital use and Maternity App 1.0, which will show the fetus in VR instead of on the monitor when a pregnant mother receives a 3D ultrasound exam at the hospital.
VR Fetus for hospital use basically consists of a wireless video transmitter and a dedicated VR device (aka HMD).
The wireless video transmitter transmits real-time 3D ultrasound images wirelessly. Then the dedicated VR device will receive the transmitted images, divide and display it into binocular images in real time, and eventually be able to store it to a USB memory as moving images.
The dedicated VR device is equipped with 3D tilting technology. GIRJAESOFT’s 3D tilting technology allows the mother to observe the fetal face more stereoscopically because the fetal face can be seen from different angles when the patient’s head is turned up/down and left/right when viewing the ultrasound fetal face.
Installation can be done by connecting the wireless video transmitter to the video output terminal (HDMI or DVI) of the diagnostic ultrasound, and then by connecting the dedicated VR device through the WiFi of the wireless video transmitter. If the diagnostic ultrasound only supports VGA, GIRJAESOFT’s all-in-one video converter can be used.
VR Fetus for hospital use transmits the video output signals of the diagnostic ultrasound wirelessly.
Therefore, there is no need to install any additional software in the diagnostic ultrasound, and there is no need of a DVR system to store the ultrasonic video. Picture quality is clearer than S-VIDEO.
Maternity App 1.0 provides the ability to play back stored fetal images on a smartphone or share them with family and friends. Maternal App 1.0 includes not only the playback of simple fetal images, but also binocular display and 3D tilting function, so it is possible to observe a stereoscopic fetal face using a cardboard easily at home.
On the other hand, GIRJAESOFT VR Fetus was selected as the ‘BEST OF KIMES TOP 10’ by KIMES (Korea International Medical Equipment & Hospital Equipment Show) in 2016, receiving a high score for the trend, growth rate, and promising product of the company.

Q. What motivated you to develop VR Fetus= CEO Sang-lim Lee was trying to find out how to use the operating software of the diagnostic ultrasound, which was developed during the start-up period of the business.
He was impressed when he accidently saw the face of the fetus on the cardboard. He exhibited the test product at the KIMES (Korea International Medical Equipment & Hospital Equipment Show) in 2016 for market research.
With the favorable reception of many visitors, he officially developed VR Fetus and released its first version in October 2016.
Q. How was the market response= By early 2017, the market response was hot, but it quickly subsided.
The reason was reliability and differentiation. The collision happened when the initial wireless video transmitter did not support the resolution of various diagnostic ultrasounds.
Besides, the VR device had to be equipped with a smartphone, which made it difficult to be used in a hospital.
Also, when playing fetal video in VR, it was reproduced only in a big screen mode, which did not show any differentiation from the monitor display.
VR Fetus for the hospital use, which is released this time, is a version that has solved these problems.
Q. What is the goal for this year= The first goal for VR Fetus for hospital use is to enter the domestic and the Chinese markets. In the case of China, we have already exported samples and we are doing businesses in some areas. We plan to expand our businesses to the whole country through the CMEF in April.
In Korea, we plan to conduct marketing activities focusing on pregnant mothers, so hospitals may provide services to view fetuses in VR at the request of mothers. Another goal is to launch Maternity App based on the healthcare.
The Maternity App released at the KIMES 2018 provides the ability to share fetal videos and view them in VR. It will be firmly established as an essential app for viewing fetal videos by the end of the year.
Q. What are your future goals= To s atisfy the pregnant mothers’curiosity and offer them with fun and touching. GIRJAESOFT will provide pregnant mothers, hospitals, and homes with products and services that combine healthcare and IT, focusing on Maternity App.
Then a mother can feel the fetus regardless of time and place, communicate with the fetus, check the health of mother and fetus, and share them with family and friends.
